Retinol (Vitamin A) One of Few Actives That Really Works

What really rejuvenates your skin is, according to science, not an exotic hard to find ingredient. It is actually the same substances that are important for the rest of the body too and what most people look for in their food supplement pills: vitamins. They are still the best when it comes to decreasing wrinkles and pigment spots, making the skin more elastic with a youthful glow.

Unlike other “hot” ingredients such as peptides and antioxidants, vitamins are essential for you, as the body cannot make them itself

Vitamins, especially vitamin A and C, are however very sensitive and fragile and often loose all of their potency when exposed to uv-radiation and oxygen in the air. Thus, most of the “old-time” cosmetic products containing vitamins loose their effect already upon opening the jar for the first time. Besides, vitamins also tend to cause side effects on sensitive persons, especially with an efficient high dose of the vitamin in question.

Maybe that’s why there’s such a frenzy to find other “magic” ingredients. But if you want an efficient product – go for the vitamins! Nowadays there have popped up new exciting technologies that make the vitamins stable and less prone to cause side effects.

Vitamin A is, so far, the most efficient rejuvenating substance science has seen. In cosmetics, a less strong and harsh variant in used, retinol. There are also other forms of vitamin A such as i.e. retinyl palmitate, which is very easy, stable and cheap, but it is much less potent and will not make much of a difference to the skin. Look in the ingredient list for retinol if you’re looking for an efficient vitamin A product.

Tomorrow Superior Serum Anti-ageing Activator

Tomorrow Superior Serum Anti-ageing Activator

In our Tomorrow Superior Serum Anti-ageing Activator we have “embedded” the retinol in microscopic droplets that preserve the activity. They also spread very thin on the skin, reaching down in all crevices that cannot be fully covered by normal size particles in creams. Another good thing about this technology is that it has a time-release effect; the skin will gradually be exposed to the retinol, which minimizes eventual side effects.

We have used a high dose of retinol, 0,4%. If you want to see any difference, you should use a product with at least 0,1% retinol.

A retinol product should only be used at nights. If you plan to spend the day afterwards in the sun, you shouldn’t use it, as your skin can get red and slightly swollen. Also, when starting a retinol treatment, use it only every third night. This is especially important if you have sensitive skin.

So what will you get from a retinol product?

The most visible effect that we have seen when testing our Tomorrow serum, which you can notice after one months use, is that the skin becomes more healthy and rosy. Simply said, it looks much younger. I recommend you to take a photo (same distance, lightening and camera) before and after one resp. three months use. Most people we have tested forget how they looked before or doesn’t notice the gradual shift to a more beautiful looking skin, so comparing photos is a fun and good thing to do. To visibly reduce pigment spots can take anything between two months to two years. But it will work if you are consistent. Retinol also makes the skin look moist and decreases wrinkles and wrinkle depth.

NB! Please please be careful when using our Tomorrow serum over the summer, retinol and sun is a really bad mix.

NB! As with all cosmetic products, you need to have realistic expectations. You will not get a 20 years younger brand new face. And if you already have young skin, not much will happen. However, for most people with signs of ageing, using an efficient retinol product will make you look younger and healthier with a moist and rosy skin.

Saturday-London for Swedish Skincare System

Swedish King Magazine has listed the 100 most influential fashion profiles in Sweden. No 27 on the list is Erik Torstensson & Jens Grede, founders of London based creative agency Saturday London.

As stated in the article, Erik and Jens have worked with both Swedish and International brands such as H&M, Absolut Vodka, Lancôme, Swarovski and – Swedish Skincare System.

The name “Swedish Skincare System” was originally Jens idea. In the beginning we were sceptical and an array of other names popped up. However, in the end we realised it was the only thing that worked, because it says exactly what we are!

The beautiful design is all Erik’s work. He’s a perfectionist and every little thing leaving their fashionable office has to be approved by Eric, down to envelopes and correspondence cards. Even if it can be very frustrating, that is probably the reason why Saturday London is so successful. They care about details and quality even if their client is a new-started and niched Swedish cosmetic brand.

Erik and Jens listened to us and translated our ideas of uncomplicated and effective skincare into a classic and beautiful design that we fell in love with. And still adore.

Cleansing and skin ageing

A major cause of various skin problems today is exaggerated use of soaps and cleansing products. Soaps and cleansers will not only dissolve impurities and make-up on the skin surface, they will also dissolve protective oils, salts and antioxidants in the skin. This harmful effect on the skin and its protective barrier can give rise to various skin problems such as dry skin and irritation. It will also speed up skin ageing processes

Skincare consumers are usually eager to find products with “active” ingredients such as antioxidants, vitamins, special lipids and oils to combat signs of ageing. But more important is not to dissolve and wash away these substances in the first place.

If possible, warm water only is often enough. Warm water will dissolve both water soluble and fat soluble impurities. It will also have a slight harmful effect on the skin barrier so it will be necessary to replace the loss of natural lipids, preferably with a lamellar cream that can build up the skin’s protection.

However, pollution and use of make-up will make in necessary to use some kind of cleansing product. It is important to use a cleansing product that is as mild and gentle as possible, but still does the job.

We have therefore developed a very mild cleansing product, Everyday Soft Foaming Cleanser (soon available in stores and online). Foaming products are usually harsher to the skin than i.e. cleansing milks. However, we have used a new technology where an extra amount of protective organic oils and ceramides have been incorporated into the product. The oils will not only protect the skin but will also dissolve fat soluble impurities, without disturbing the skin barrier.

Whatever your choice of cleanser, our advice is that you choose a routine that is as gentle as possible to the skin but still does the job. And that you repair the damage with a lamellar cream.
