Swedish Skincare System

The story about Swedish Skincare System is the story about developing skincare products, and the passion and love for what we do. Over the years we have gained so much experience, made many mistakes, and managed to do things that we are proud of and throughout this journey we have learnt to create products that we are passionately in love with that we want to share.

We want people to look good, and there are many other aspects apart from wrinkles that make the skin look young and healthy. People of all ages want to have a wonderful skin and look attractive. A very important aspect of being attractive is having a great skin.  Based on our experiences we believe you achieve great skin by strengthening the skin barrier using a few and effective products. Which is the essence of Swedish Skincare System.

As similar as possible to the skin itself

We have developed skincare for several years in collaboration with independent dermatologists (skin doctors) to measure, verify and document the effect. Having licensed or sold our formulas to other companies for many years we decided to launch our own brand. Swedish Skincare System is a concentrate of all our experiences over the years.

Our first clinical study failed. We are all convinced this was due to the fact that we used silicones as a basis in the formula, instead of natural lipids (fatty substances). Silicones are used because they give the cream a nice texture, they make the cream spread easily on the skin. However, they stay on the skin surface and do not add anything to the skin. That experience convinced us that you have to formulate skincare that is as similar as possible in content and structure to the skin itself. Since then, we use natural lipids that are found in the skin.

The important 95%

We also realised that the basis of the cream is very important, perhaps more important than the active substances. A conventional cream consists of approximately 70% water, 25% lipids and the remaining 5% consists of active ingredients, preservatives, emulsifiers and perfume. In the latest decade the skincare business has seen a focus in these 5%, mostly in the search for new and innovative active ingredients. But our experiences told us that it is equally or even more important to look at the other 95%. The most important mission for skincare products is to restore the protective barrier of the skin that we constantly damage through cleansing and showers. The primary damage is the loss of natural lipids and water binding substances in the skin, and this is what you restore with the 95%. There is so much you can do to make this 95% basis as similar as possible to the skin.

Minimum of products and ingredients – maximum results

We believe that some people in our clinical studies get improved skin texture not only because of the product that we are testing but also because they have to follow a strict protocol where they are only allowed to use a limited amount of products – a mild cleanser and the cream they are testing. Hence, they expose their skin to far less products and ingredients than usually. And now we’re not only talking about less “bad” ingredients such as emulsifiers, preservatives and mineral oils, but that a large number of ingredients as such may damage the skin barrier. Therefore we wanted to launch a skincare brand with only a few products containing a limited amount of ingredients.

However, less products and ingredients do not necessarily mean less effect. In order to have skincare products that really work, you need to have therapeutic doses of active ingredients, that is, doses that have been scientifically proven to have results for the majority of test participants. When we for example use vitamin A, we use a high dose that has been proven time after time, to have an effect.

The same product doesn’t work for all and an unusual or exotic ingredient isn’t necessarily better than an ingredient that has been used and proven for a long time. Ultimately we have to test the product to see if it works for the majority of users. And you have to test a product to see if it works for you.

A minimum of products with a few, but active, ingredients creating healthy beautiful skin. For both women and men. That is the essence of Swedish Skincare System.
